Science debate topics
Science gives us new tools and new knowledge, and each advance raises questions that science alone cannot answer. How should we produce energy, feed a growing population, edit genes or explore space? Researchers can describe what is possible, risky or costly, but choosing what to do depends on values, money and politics too.
The topics in this category sit where facts and choices meet. A debater who knows the evidence is in a strong position, but the best arguments also say what trade-offs they accept: speed against safety, cost against benefit, present needs against future ones.
When you take part, try to be precise. Name the technology, the place and the time frame you have in mind. Distinguish what is well established from what is uncertain, and say so when you are not sure. Be ready to change your position when someone shows you a better source or a better argument.
Pick a topic below, take a side and debate it live or by turns. You can argue for either side, and trying the one you disagree with is a good way to find the limits of your own view.

- Is nuclear the answer to climate change? Zero carbon, massive output, but also Chernobyl and Fukushima in public memory. Should we build more reactors or shut them down? Scale nuclear aggressively, it's the only realistic clean baseload vs Too risky, too expensive, invest in renewables instead
