What is theChatStage?
theChatStage is a real-time chat and live-debate platform. Pair up with strangers for one-on-one conversations, or pick a side on a topic and argue it live with an opponent while anonymous spectators watch.
Is theChatStage free to use?
Yes. Creating an account, chatting, and joining debates are all free. We don't run ads. Optional premium features may be added later but the core product stays free.
Do I need to sign up?
Yes to chat or debate. Anonymous visitors can watch live debates and browse debate topics without an account. Sign up takes under 60 seconds — email and password, or Google sign-in.
What's the minimum age?
13. We enforce this at sign-up via date of birth. Users under 18 may have additional protections in future releases. Full rules are in our Terms of Use.
How do live debates work?
Browse approved topics, pick a side (Pro or Con), and join the queue. When someone picks the opposite side, you're matched instantly into a debate room. Messages, voice notes, and images go live. Spectators can watch but not speak.
How does matching in chat work?
Filter by country, language, age range, gender, interests, and reputation. When you click Chat on an online user, you enter a private session. Busy? Join their queue. Offline? Schedule a chat — we email both sides when they come online.
What are ratings?
After a chat or debate ends, both users have 24 hours to rate each other on five traits: civility, thoughtfulness, ease of talking, honesty, open-mindedness. Ratings are anonymous. Your public reputation appears after 3+ ratings.
Is it safe?
We require email confirmation, support two-factor sign-in via Google, and run moderation on reported abuse. Every user can be reported mid-chat. Admins review reports and ban offenders. Voice notes and images are scanned for content violations.
Can people see my email or real name?
No. Only your display name, age, country, and interests are public. Email stays private and is used only for notifications you opted into.
What languages are supported?
The interface is currently in English. Hebrew RTL support is planned. Users themselves can chat in any language — we let you filter matches by language so you find people you can actually talk to.
Can I delete my account?
Yes. Go to Settings → Account → Delete account. Your messages are anonymized and your profile data is purged within 30 days per our Privacy Policy.
How do I unsubscribe from emails?
Every notification email has an Unsubscribe link at the bottom. One click opts you out. You can resubscribe anytime. Account-security emails (confirmation, password reset) always send regardless.
Is there a mobile app?
Not yet. theChatStage runs as a responsive web app that works on phones, tablets, and desktops. A native app is on the roadmap.
How do I report abuse?
Inside any chat or debate room, click the flag icon. Pick a reason, add context if you want, submit. Our moderation team reviews reports within 24 hours. Serious violations result in immediate bans.
