Society debate topics
Society is made up of people with different needs, beliefs and ways of life, and its rules are the result of many compromises. The questions in this category look at where those compromises sit: how we protect young people, how we share public space, how we treat identity and personal choice, and what the law should say about habits and risks.
These topics often touch strong feelings, and that is a reason to debate them carefully, not to avoid them. Define your terms first, because much disagreement comes from people using the same word to mean different things. Separate what you believe is true from what you believe is fair, and be open about which of the two is driving your view.
Remember that real people are affected by these questions, including some who may be reading your words. Make your case with evidence and respect, and ask questions that help you understand the other side before you reply.
Choose a topic, pick a side, and debate it live or by turns with someone who disagrees. You are welcome to argue a view that is not your own.
